OUR PHILOSOPHY

“BCC taught me everything I know about comedy. I credit the teachers and the community with helping me hone my voice and trust myself as a comedian! Plus, it’s the best place to hang out.” – Sophie Zucker (THE DAILY SHOW)

We teach students how to both F*CK IT and LOVE IT while creating comedy. F*CK IT means we are not going to take ourselves too seriously or beat ourselves up when we make mistakes. Mistakes are the way we get better, and the more stress we put on being perfect, the less relaxed and playful we’ll be. Once we get out of our own way, we learn to LOVE IT. This means we celebrate what you and your fellow players bring to the table. By holding both ideas in our head, we remember why we fell in love with comedy – one of the most wonderful things in the world – while not taking it too seriously.

We believe in community – we want you to find your lifelong friends in a space where nobody is cooler than anyone else. We’re all just a bunch of comedy lovers in Brooklyn having the god-damn time of our lives. Come join the party.

We believe in empowerment – we want you to get on our stages and hone your craft. We’ve found the best comedy comes from people who like each other creating together. Countless students have gone on to creates teams or pitch us unique shows, and we actively look to elevate them with performance opportunities. Give us your most fun and dumb comedy, baby. Let’s go.

Mission

The Brooklyn Comedy Collective (BCC) is a comedy theater and school in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn with a mission to produce irreverent, fearless shows from a wide range of voices, pay its artists, and inspire students to approach performance from a place of joy and fierceness. We believe in the power of collective decision making, ensuring a diversity of voices are at the table, and that everyone is treated with equity. From year-round comedy classes to workshops for businesses to three yearly festivals and live comedy every Tues-Sunday night in East Williamsburg, we celebrate anyone who wants to let their freak flag fly.

We offer a wide array of classes in improv, sketch, and stand-up and more – available year-round at our fabulous training centers – The Dog House (137 Montrose Ave, Brooklyn) & The Pig Pen (144 Boerum St). We teach students how to say both F*CK IT and LOVE IT while creating comedy.

Just a 1 minute walk away, we produce shows over 24 shows a week on Tuesday-Sunday nights at Eris, a two-floor, kick-ass theater (167 Graham Ave, Brooklyn). Down the block is our second stage, The Pig Pen (144 Boerum St), featuring up-and-coming talent. You can stop by either space for our free open mics and improv jams, an intimate stand-up show, a glorious high-production comedy show, you name it. We produce three major festivals each year: Pitchfest (staged readings of pilots and one-person shows for invited industry), Fun & Dumb (one of the world’s largest improv festivals, featuring over 600 performers over 4 days across 3 stages), and a bevy of shows in the yearly New York Comedy Festival.

We believe in community – so say hello. We want you to find your lifelong friends in a space where nobody is cooler than anyone else. We’re all just a bunch of comedy lovers in Brooklyn having the god-damn time of our lives. Come join the party.

We believe in empowerment – we want you to get on our stages and hone your craft. We’ve found the best comedy comes from people who like each other creating together. Countless students have gone on to pitch us unique shows, and we actively look to elevate students with performance opportunities. Give us your most fun and dumb comedy, baby. Let’s go.

We offer private corporate shows and workshops teaching the skills of improvisation to businesses and orgs of all size, including Fortune 500 companies, at our space our yours. Improv makes you a better listener, more confident leader, and team player who leads with joy.

Whatever you want to see or do, we have. Submit your show and be a part of the BCC community, jump into a class with us, or say hello at our free open mic and improv jams. We’d love to have you join the fam.
