2. Bar Lis
Bar Lis at the Thompson Hollywood in Los Angeles
Michael Mundy
Bar Lis at Thompson Hollywood may have “bar” in the name, but it takes on the structure of a traditional Hollywood club experience. Velvet rope with a line down the block? Check. Tough bouncers that will only let you skip the line if you know the right person? Check. Crowd of trendsetters, influencers, and socialites? Check.
That being said, it’s a great time. There’s space to dance with a disco ball overhead and isn’t overstuffed with bottle service tables. The patio is the best place to mingle with a view of Tinsel Town down below.

What part of Los Angeles has the best nightlife?
You’ll find the best nightlife in Los Angeles in West Hollywood, Hollywood, and Downtown LA. These neighborhoods house most of the city’s top clubs, bars, and lounges.
When do clubs close in LA?
Clubs in Los Angeles do last call at 1:30am and close at 2:00am. Doors usually close at 1:30am for entry as well. Some EDM clubs like Academy, Sound, and Avalon may stay open until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights, but still do not serve alcohol later than 1:30am.
How do guest lists work at Los Angeles clubs?
If a club is guest list only, it means they don’t sell tickets for entry and you must be on the list to get in. You can otherwise gain access by purchasing a bottle service table.
Guest lists are run by club promoters, venue staff, and management. You’ll need to know someone who can get you on the list to be granted entry (your best bet is reaching out to a promoter). Walk-ins are at the doorman’s discretion and waiting in line does not always guarantee entry.
